Roman Empire, Septimius Severus, AE sestertius (19.6 g), after AD 194, irregular mint in Gaul (?), his laureate head right/Victory advancing right with laurel wreath and palm branch.
The crude style of this coin, as well as its fabric, clearly indicate that it is not an official product of the Rome mint. There are several deviations from the official design, e.g. the reverse legend reads COS III, and Victory has her right foot forward. It seems to be a charmingly accomplished contemporary counterfeit, probably manufactured in Gaul.
Better than very fine, green patina.
RIC - cf. 672(a) for the official issue.
