Netherlands – Officer’s Long Service Decoration (15 Years), gilt silver, Koninklijke Begeer Voorschoten, post-WWII
Description:
Obverse:
Gilt cross with concave arms and finely textured surfaces. In the center a silvered laurel wreath enclosing the Roman numeral “XV”, with crossed elements below.
Reverse:
Plain. Central appliqué secured by a horizontal bar construction. Stamped “KON. BEGEER VOORSCHOTEN”.
Historical Context:
The Officer’s Long Service Decoration was instituted in 1866 and awarded to officers of the Dutch armed forces for long and honorable active service.
The gilt silver class corresponds to 15 years of service. This example is a later production by Koninklijke Begeer following the granting of the royal title in 1951, placing it in the post-war period.
Notes:
Standard-sized example (approx. 8.6 g), unlike the smaller miniature variants. Later production with full maker’s inscription rather than early monogram marks.
