Historical Context:
This bronze commemorative medal was issued in 1934 by the city of Antwerp to mark the centenary of the birth of composer and conductor Peter Benoit (1834–1901), a leading figure in Flemish music and founder of the Antwerp Royal Conservatory. The design by Alphonse Mauquoy combines classic portraiture with Art Deco elements, reflecting the blend of tradition and modernism in interwar Belgian commemorative art.
