“ÉCOLE DE COUPE DE L’OUEST / VERVIERS / DIRIGÉE PAR / MME SIMAR / DE DOYARD / RUE VICTOR BESME 48”
Historical Context:
This gilt medal was awarded by the École de coupe de l’Ouest (School of Cutting and Dressmaking of the West) in Verviers, directed by Madame Simar de Doyard. Likely issued in the 1920s during the reign of King Albert I, the medal served to recognize excellence in vocational education. The classical bust of Albert I symbolizes civic virtue and state support for artisanal training. Such medals were often distributed during annual ceremonies or as graduation awards.
