Egyptian Mosaic Glass Falcon Head Inlay, Ptolemaic Period, ca. 2nd-1st Century BC. A rare Egyptian glass mosaic inlay depicting the bust of the falcon-headed god Horus, rendered in vibrant white, green, black, blue, and yellow glass. The falcon bust is visible on both faces of the tile and is framed within a translucent dark blue glass ground displaying subtle areas of iridescence. The vibrant polychromy and finely executed mosaic technique are characteristic of the sophisticated glasswork produced during the Ptolemaic Period. A comparable example is preserved in the Groppi Collection and was published in Christie's Antiquities, London, 26 April 2012, lot 87. The present example may derive from the same workshop as the Christie's piece.
