Roman Marble Frieze of Eros, ca. 2nd-3rd Century AD. A substantial marble fragment depicting Eros, carved in shallow relief as an outstretched nude erote. The figure is rendered with a dramatically twisted torso, the sinuous movement of the body conveying a remarkable sense of motion. One arm extends outward, the palm openly displayed, while a portion of the figure's wing remains visible behind the body. Beneath the extended arm is a smaller figure, adding further depth and narrative interest to the composition. The fragment may derive from the relief decoration of a Roman sarcophagus.
