In history of Russian collecting second half XIX century the special place belongs to an outstanding Russian bibliographer, the bibliophile and collector Grigory Nikolaevich Gennadi.
For contemporaries it speaks not only the characteristic of his remarkable collections which have been disseminated, not having left after itself any descriptions, but first of all outstanding contribution Gennadi to the domestic bibliography.
In this book the description of his collection of the Russian engraved portraits which used even greater popularity, than his well-known library is offered. His Collection the place of honour in history of a domestic collecting, and by virtue of an abundance of unique and rare sheets was actively used by A.A.Vasilchikovym and D.A.Rovinskim for a writing of the monumental compositions on Russian engraving.

В истории русского собирательства второй половины XIX столетия особое место принадлежит выдающемуся русскому библиографу, библиофилу и коллекционеру Григорию Николаевичу Геннади. Для современников это объясняется не только характеристикой его замечательных коллекций, которые были рассеяны, не оставив после себя никаких описаний, но прежде всего выдающимся вкладом Геннади в отечественную библиографию.
В этой книге предлагается описание его коллекции русских гравированных портретов, которая пользовалась даже большей известностью, чем его знаменитая библиотека. Это собрание занимает свое почетное место в истории отечественного коллекционирования, а в силу обилия уникальных и редких листов активно использовалось А.А.Васильчиковым и Д.А.Ровинским для написания своих монументальных сочинений по русской гравюре.
