The man who bought the Roman Empire.
After the murder of emperor Pertinax in 193 AD, morality was at an alltime low in the Roman Empire. The Praetorian Guard announced the auctioning off of the empire to the highest bidder. With his bid of 6250 denarii for every Praetorian, the rich senator Didius Julianus ensured himself of the throne. His reign didn’t last long. After only three months he was deposed by Septimius Severus and paid for his foolish ambition with his life.
