Obverse : CLAUDE MARTIN FONDATEUR / LABORE ET CONSTANTINI Tête de profil tournée vers la droite, signé : DANTZELL FILS
Reverse : ÉCOLE DES SCIENCES ET ARTS INDUSTRIELS DE LYON / LA MARTINIERE // MECANIQUE / ET PHYSIQUE / - / 1.ER PRIX / FERRIERE / (PIERRE-CESAR) / 1840 Légende en deux lignes circulaires et en 6 lignes horizontales entre des branches de chêne
Commentary : Médaille ayant été nettoyée. Présence de quelques coups et rayures, notamment sur la tranche
FR : La médaille fut remise à Pierre César Ferrière en premier prix pour mécanique et physique.La Martinière fut un bref instant dans le palais Saint-Pierre (musée de peinture de Lyon) puis en 1832-1833 transférée dans l'ancien cloître des Augustins vers les Terreaux. Aujourd'hui il existe aussi La Martinière-Duchère, La Martinière-Monplaisir. Le Major Martin légua aussi des sommes pour construire la Martinière-Lucknow (Inde) et un autre établissement à Calcutta. Mais les deux institutions "historiques" furent celles de Lyon (Augustins) et Lucknow avec la même devise : Labore et Constantia.

La Martinière was briefly housed in the Palais Saint-Pierre (Lyon Museum of Painting) before being moved in 1832-1833 to the former Augustinian cloister near Place des Terreaux. Today, there are also La Martinière-Duchère and La Martinière-Monplaisir. Major Martin also bequeathed funds for the construction of La Martinière-Lucknow (India) and another establishment in Calcutta. However, the two \\\"historical\\\" institutions were those in Lyon (Augustinian) and Lucknow, both sharing the same motto: Labore et Constantia (Work and Persevere).
