EN : Francis II (Fontainebleau, January 19, 1544 - Orléans, December 5, 1560), was King of France from 1559 until his death. The eldest son of Henry II and Catherine de Medici, he ascended the throne of France prematurely at the age of fifteen after the accidental death of his father on July 10, 1559. Upon his accession, he entrusted the reins of government to the Guise, the uncles of his wife Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. With regard to the Protestant Reformers, the reign of Francis II initially followed the repressive tradition of Henry II and then attempted conciliation. He inaugurated the establishment of a dialogue with the Reformers but was implacable in the face of agitators. His reign lasted only one year and five months.
