EN : Hybrid token between 4337 and 4338. The churchwardens were lay people responsible for administering the parish's revenues: they regulated the price of pews in the church, burials, appointed the cantors, vergers, bell ringers. They had, with the priest, the custody of the keys and ornaments of the church. Elected from among the notables of the parish, they often played the role of municipal magistrates. The Commissioners of the Poor were bourgeois, chosen by the churchwardens, who were appointed to collect taxes dedicated to the relief of the poor.
