Obverse: IMP AVG DIVI F. Bare head left; behind, caduceus and before, palm. Reverse: Decorated celtic shield (also called caetra).
Very nice exemplar of this scarce type, difficult to find in this condition (VF+), conserving complete details, bold reliefs and a precious green patina totally natural.
This coin was struck circa 27-25 BC commemorating the Roman conquest of the north of Hispania, the so-named "bellum cantabricum", directed by Agrippa and in which Augustus himself participated for a few months. The celtic shield of the reverse (caetra) represents one of the favourite weapons of the Cantabrian people: the group of Celtic tribes that was defeated by Rome in this war.
RPC 4. Uncertain mint in the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula ca. 27-25 BC. 8,1 g - 27 mm
